Extremely rare Elephant chair by the French artist Bernard Rancillac.
This copy has been produced in 1985 by Roudillon France. Worldwide only 100 pieces in 5 different colours are in circulation, all signed and numbered.
Hardly anyone has been sitting in that chair, because it has been standing in the corner as a(n) piece of art/eye-catcher and thus it is in very good and original condition. The seat is made of polyester on a black-painted rough iron base. Despite the hard polyester the chair feels incredibly comfortably, even after a long time. The original wing nuts to attach the seat to the base are included.
Chairs like this are only offered through large auction houses, galleries or 1stdibs, but it is very seldomly. The prices run from €2,500 to €11,000.
There are copies in the collection of the 'Musee des arts Decoratifs' in Paris, of the Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, and in the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Art.
