|藝術品的名稱:||Dainichi Nyorai Buddha Zushi Butsudan -Gold Gilt, Gilt Painting, & Laquer Wood|
An exceptional piece from the late Edo Period 江戸時代 (also known as the Tokugawa period 徳川時代 1603-1868). This is a beautiful, rare, genuine Japanese antique, laquered wood and gold gilt, Dainichi Nyorai Buddha 大日如来 with Painted Male and Female Bodhisattvas, Butsudan, Zushi Box.
Dainichi Nyorai (Sanskrit: Mahavairocana Tathagata), or 'Supreme Buddha of the Cosmos' from which the entire universe emanates, is the central object of devotion in the Esoteric sects of Buddhism.
Here, Dainichi appears in a form known as Ichiji Kinrin, or “One-Syllable Golden Wheel,” one of the Five Supreme Buddha Attendants. Dainichi’s hands form the 'Chiken-in', or “Wisdom Fist” mudra, with the left index finger surrounded by the fingers of the right hand. This gesture is said to have the power to restrain passions that hinder enlightenment, and it expresses the union of spiritual and material. The mudrā is that of the Diamond Realm, with the fingers of the right hand symbolizing the five elements penetrated by the Buddhist essence as represented by the index finger of the left hand. The gesture also symbolizes the mystic union of the material with the spiritual of yoga practice, which in Tibet and Nepal takes the form of the ecstatic Yab-Yum embrace physically depicted as two lovers in embrace, but in China and Japan is sublimated in a more conservative manner with this mudrā. The Dainichi Nyorai Buddha is flanked by a Male and Female Bodhisattva on the doors, symbolic of the union of male and female this Diety represents.
The Buddha sits on a elaborate raised lotus throne, which includes small sacred swaztika decorations. The 'Swastik' is used as a symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indian religions. The name swastika comes from Sanskrit word swastik
(Devanagari: स्वस्तिक) meaning 'conducive to well being' or 'auspicious'. In Hinduism, the symbol with arms pointing clockwise (卐) is called swastika, symbolizing surya ('sun'), prosperity and good luck, while the counterclockwise symbol (卍) is called sauvastika, symbolizing night or tantricaspects of Kali.
Thus Zushi originally part of an old Japanese family shrine, from a old rural estate sell, imported directly from Japan by me.
There are many decorative features to the interior and exterior, and the Zushi has copper fittings including hinges and catch.
A wonderful statue for the collector, altar, or an impressive interior design statement.

I originally trained as a Sculptor then Photographer in the 1980s. In the 90s I had a successful career as a young jewellery Designer In London. I produced collections for Boules, Miss Selfridge, and the Designer outlet Jess James in Soho. With an active interest in Buddhism and Taoism since my teens, I've been collecting Buddhist and Oriental Art since 2003. I source these pieces directly from Dealers in the UK, USA, Europe, and Japan. I've been personally on buying trips to the Far East. I restore lost gems to those bronzes with empty settings, and restore wooden Japanese Antiques where pieces are lost or broken. Many of pieces end up in private collections, altars, and even Buddhist Retreats and Temples. I consider both my restorations, and my collecting, as a meditation within the Karma Yoga tradition.
