Pallasite ‘Seymchan’ Meteorite of 78 g with beautiful olivine.
The meteorite comes from Seymchan, province of Magadan. Russia
The meteorite was found in 1967 in the Magadan district of Russia. It was first classified as octahedral siderite and then reclassified to pallasite after the discovery of many other olivine-containing fragments.
The geologist F. A. Mednikov found the main mass (272.3 kg) in the bed of a stream flowing into the Hekandue river in 1967. A second smaller mass (50 kg) was found in October 1967 at 20 m from the first by I. H. Markov, using a mine detector.
The main mass of the meteorite is now at the Academy of Sciences of Russia in Moscow.
