Karlsson Nixie Clock - Peter van der Jagt - 1997
This clock was designed by Peter van der Jagt in 1997 as an exam project at the Arnhem art academy. He used modern electronics to drive the old display tubes, which resulted in a nixie clock that is much more compact than the use of electronic circuits from the era in which nixie tubes were produced. The clock is encapsulated in a shiny stainless steel casing which makes it look finished, pure and simple. A design piece for the modern house.
This clock uses 6 ZM1080 nixie tubes (hours, minutes and seconds) that have had their orange coating removed. These tubes have not been in production for decades and this makes the clock a mix of old and new technology. On the inside there is a microcontroller for time registration and control. The operation (setting time) consists of 2 metal toggle switches. You can switch between 12 and 24 hour indication.
This is one of the few nixie clocks ever made in production and offered through regular sales channels.
This one has never been out of the box and is completely new and complete with manual in French, German, English and Dutch.
It was carefully removed from the box and tested for the photographs.
